Ever since the Republicans have fallen under the doleful spell of Donald Trump, a central plank of the party platform and a crucial component of their leader’s appeal has been hate—a venomous emotion that expresses itself in a variety of destructive and malignant ways. In humorous but seriously intended light verse, David Ewbank explores the possibility of effectively resisting Trump’s hateful influence without becoming, like Trump himself, a confirmed, bitter hater.

About the Author

Dr. Ewbank holds degrees from the University of Colorado, Ohio University and the University of Illinois. A retired English professor, he taught for thirty-two years in the English Department of Kent State University. His most recent book, published in 2023 by Brandeis University Press, is a collection of poem parodies entitled The Lamb Cycle.
